Bridge Over Troubled Waters is proud to honor David Long of Liberty Mutual Insurance for his efforts to serve Boston’s homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth.

David Long is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Mutual Insurance. He began his career at Liberty Mutual in 1985 and he has held positions of increasing responsibility in the company’s International Operations, Commercial Markets, Underwriting and Financial, and Mergers and Acquisitions. He was elected President in 2010, became CEO in 2011, and Chairman in 2013.

David serves on the Board of Directors of multiple Liberty Mutual affiliate companies. He is also on the Board of Trustees for Hartwick College, Ford’s Theatre, and Massachusetts General Hospital. He serves on the board for Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, Jobs for MA, and Massachusetts and Competitive Partnership.

David is also Chairman for the annual MGH Aspire Fundraiser, which provides social services and development opportunities for children and young adults on the Autism Spectrum.

He earned a B.A. degree in mathematics from Hartwick College in 1983 and an M.S. in finance from Boston College in 1989. David was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Hartwick College in 2014, an honorary doctorate of commercial science degree from Bentley University in 2017 and a doctor of business and commerce honorary degree from Merrimack College in May, 2018.

David has been a champion for vulnerable youth and young adults. Partnering with Bridge in many ways over the past decade, David has helped strengthen Bridge’s comprehensive continuum of services ranging from street outreach and emergency overnight respite to housing programs. Last year, David led Liberty Mutual Foundation in helping Bridge purchase and establish Liberty House. Liberty House is the perfect next step for young adults who have graduated from other Bridge programs such as the Transitional Living Program in Brighton.

+ 2019 The Path Home Gala raises $2.1 million

On Friday, May 10, 2019 more than 300 of Boston’s influential business leaders and philanthropists joined at the Four Seasons Hotel Boston to support Bridge Over Troubled Waters’ annual The Path Home Gala, honoring David Long of Liberty Mutual Insurance. This year’s event co-chairs were Chuck Clough, Chairman, CEO and Portfolio Manager at Clough Capital Partners, and Tom May, Chairman Emeritus of Eversource Energy.

The event raised $2.1 million for the programs and services at Bridge Over Troubled Waters (Bridge), Boston’s foremost agency serving homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. The Gala helps raise the funds to cover a significant portion of Bridge’s operating expenses and provide critical services to 2,000 youth.

Bridge honored David Long of Liberty Mutual Insurance for his efforts to serve Boston’s homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. Partnering with Bridge in many ways over the past decade, Mr. Long has helped strengthen Bridge’s comprehensive continuum of services, street outreach and emergency overnight accommodations to transitional and independent housing programs. Last year, David led Liberty Mutual Foundation in helping Bridge purchase and establish Liberty House, an independent living program for young adults moving on from other Bridge programs who are advancing their education and are employed.
