Kristina is currently studying for her Masters in Social Work (MSW). As part of her education, she has spent the academic year doing an internship placement here at Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Below, she shares a bit about her experience.
I was looking to work with at-risk youth and was surprised that Bridge is one of the few agencies in Boston serving homeless youth.
At Bridge, I’m a social work intern, working with youth in the Transitional Day Program.
A large part of the work I do is supporting youth emotionally during this time in their lives.
I also provide case management support for our youth. I help each individual apply for housing, search for jobs, or get vital documents. Also, I assist in the running of daily groups and attend program outings in the community.
Interning here at Bridge was a great way to build off my previous experience in youth services.
I first heard about Bridge through my field education advisor at Wheelock College (before it was bought out by Boston University). It was an opportunity to learn firsthand about services available in Boston.
I wish people knew the severity of youth homelessness in Boston.
I also wish people knew that we have a medical van! It is such a great way to engage with youth and provide services that they might not otherwise have access to.
